What Is the First Year Experience?

MCC’s First Year Experience (FYE) is all about helping first-year students connect outside the classroom. Through events like game nights, craft sessions, fitness classes, and student life fairs, FYE creates easy ways to meet people, relax, and get involved. Every event is free and open to all MCC students.

Register for Orientation

Orientation and FYE work together to support your first year, but each offers unique benefits. Orientation takes place before your first semester to help you prepare. FYE offers programming throughout your entire first year at MCC. Register for an orientation session that works for your schedule and campus.

Help shape student experiences by becoming a Peer Navigator or Resident Assistant (RA). These paid leadership roles let you support students, build community, and grow skills that stand out long after graduation.

What is a Peer Navigator?

As a Peer Navigator, you help new students feel at home at MCC. You’ll lead campus tours, help with orientation and welcome events, and be a friendly, knowledgeable face students can turn to with questions. It’s a great way to build leadership skills, meet people across campus, and make a real impact during someone’s first year.

What is a Resident Assistant?

As an RA, you help create a supportive and welcoming residence hall community. You’ll connect with students where they live, plan fun and educational programs, and help promote a safe, inclusive environment. Along the way, you’ll strengthen communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills that carry into any career.
