The TAAC offers free tutoring for over 300 courses at MCC. Each member of the TAAC staff will complete rigorous training standards and best practices set by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).
The TAAC aims to assist students in becoming independent learners, promoting critical thinking, and providing support from trained professionals. Students can work with tutoring staff to assess their academic needs and develop interventions for tackling challenges in particular courses.
Now featuring TracCloud, the new and improved version of TutorTrac. TracCloud is more user friendly as it makes scheduling and accessing appointments much easier for students seeking assistance.
TracCloud allows students to schedule in-person and virtual sessions with MCC tutors, Academic Coaches, and Writing Consultants during scheduled hours. This service provides one-on-one support with content experts in MCC specific courses ranging from math, biology, English, business, psychology, and writing, among many other courses. In-person sessions are held in in the TAAC located in Building 11, Room 106 on the Brighton Campus or on the 4th floor of Dr. Anne Kress Learning Commons on the Downtown Campus. Virtual sessions are held via Zoom where a student can video chat with an MCC tutor, screen share, and upload documents in real time.
For additional tutoring after hours, ThinkingStorm is available 24 hours through our Brightspace Learning Management System. Once logged into Brightspace, click on “Academic Resources” in the Navbar, and then “ThinkingStorm-Online Tutoring”.
Monroe Community College students have access to free (up to 5 hours per year) online tutoring services with ThinkingStorm. This service provides convenient and comprehensive online support for topics like math, writing, science, statistics, and more. ThinkingStorm is open every day for online tutoring, which includes on-demand, appointment-based, and asynchronous support.
Students work one-on-one with their tutors in intuitive online classrooms, which combine user-friendly visual tools and live chat functionality to create a versatile, interactive learning environment. Students can receive help on tricky assignments, brush up on the basics, or tackle advanced concepts with help from a team of expert online tutors. Students can also access live tutorials in writing across math, business, writing, IT, and sciences, as well as a full range of study resources, including writing manuals, sample problems, research tools, and study skills manuals.
Tutoring is provided in the Information and Computer Technologies (ICT) Lab so students have access to equipment that they will need to learn to use for the program.
Tutoring is provided for Graphic Art in our Macintosh Labs in Building 4, Rooms 101 and 103.
These labs contain Macintosh computers with Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Microsoft Office, and a number of other programs applicable to VaPA students.
The Natural Science Education Center (NSEC) is located in Building 9, Room 143. It is managed by the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP). The CSTEP staff have offices located within NSEC. Professional and peer tutors offer tutoring services in the science courses. Tutoring sessions are offered individually or in group settings. Tutoring sessions are offered on a walk-in basis, as long as the tutors are available.
NSEC has resources that students can use while in NSEC, including anatomical models, microscopes, text books and much more. To access NSEC, students must scan their student ID’s at the front desk.
