The MCC Experience

At MCC, you'll receive more than language instruction. You'll learn in a supportive environment designed to help you develop academic English skills while building confidence and independence as you pursue your educational and career goals.

English Language Development

You’ll take courses that focus on reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, listening, and speaking to help strengthen English proficiency and communication. 

Flexible Learning Options

This certificate can be completed full-time or part-time, and some courses can be completed online. You can even take some courses while simultaneously working toward other MCC certificates or degree programs.

MCC's ESOL faculty works closely with International Student Services to help you navigate immigration requirements, academic advisement and planning, placement testing, and the transition to college-level coursework. We’re here to help you adjust to life at MCC—and the United States.

Make Connections

There are many ways to get involved, make friends, and build networks at MCC. The Global Union provides a welcoming space to share experiences, learn about different cultures, participate in activities, and explore destinations throughout the United States. Join one—or more—of nearly 50 clubs and organizations. And be sure to stop by the PRISM Multicultural Center for workshops, discussions, films, events, and cultural programs to help make meaningful connections.

The ESOL English Proficiency Certificate is designed for non-native English speakers who want to improve their English proficiency, prepare for college-level coursework, expand career opportunities, and better navigate academic and professional environments in the United States

ESOL English Proficiency

Develop English skills in reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking, pronunciation, and intercultural competence.

Length

1 to 2 years / 32 to 35 credit hours
Most students typically complete this program in 12 to 18 months.

The ESOL English Proficiency Certificate is designed to help you strengthen your English skills and earn college credits. Many students apply the credits earned in the ESOL certificate toward associate degree programs at MCC.   

Earning an associate degree from MCC can serve as a stepping stone as you transfer to a bachelor’s degree program at a four-year college or university. When you’re ready, our Transfer Services Team can help guide you through the process.
